"My ceilings are higher than these cat trees, so i need one that can stand without tipping. But i also need the smallest floor footprint with the tallest possible tree- 6 ft, higher is better. 7, 8 ft great. Do all the taller ones need the ceiling spring attachment?"
Because of its simple and sturdy design. I have three other typical 6 - 7 foot tall cat trees with multiple layers and posts. The cats and I like them just fine, but over time they get loose and wobbly, and to tighten them I have to take them apart and start tightening at the bottom posts working up. Not terrible, but kind of a bother. This doesn't look like any deconstruction will be needed to tighten it.

The base. I also ended up looking on Kijiji and found a pile of logs/poles for $20 for 4 10'foot, 6" inch thick. Just old dried fallen trees a guy was clearing out of his property. Worked perfect for the cat tree and gave a very natural appearance!I recently obtained an interesting shelf I wanted to turn into a cat tree. I have done this before with an old TV stand. We were getting a new kitten and I thought it was about time to replace our old, beat-up cat trees with some nice new ones. After much shopping and price comparisons, I found the Overstock website and decided to take a chance ordering cat trees online. I ordered two new cat trees. The first was a large cat condo - called "6-foot Cat Playstation with Kitty Cruiser Bundle" on Overstock. That one turned out to be an excellent, high-quality product. See my review on that item's page for details. I was so pleased with that product that I decided to order a second, smaller cat tree. And selected this one - the "Premiere Solid Wood 6-foot Skyscraper Cat Tree".Well, I was VERY DISAPPOINTED when this one arrived. ALL the different shelves or levels (or whatever you call them) were VERY LOOSE. They were literally hanging on loose screws! I couldn't believe it and even wondered if this cat tree was "some assembly required". But there was no instruction manual included to tell you anything. I got out my tool box and wasted my evening attempting to tighten the screws, to secure the levels. Maybe I'm just getting old but there's a layer of hard plastic under the carpet, and the wood itself was so dense that after much effort, I got nowhere. Then I started noticing other problems. When standing upright, the whole structure of this cat tree is wobbly! I just nudged it, and it would shake. You could tell even the screws holding it to the base were loose. I also noticed the carpeting on the underside of the shelves, was not attached well, you could see bare plywood showing and even exposed staples. That was an unpleasant cosmetic issue, but I was way more concerned about how unsteady the whole thing was. I would not feel safe letting my cats play on this item. The more I considered the safety issues, it actually made me a little angry. Thank goodness I saved the box because I ended up returning this item. The Overstock website's return process was very easy. I lost another evening struggling the thing back into its box and getting it all taped up secure for re-shipping. Also had to pay UPS to pick up the item at my house, because my car is not big enough to transport it. But I am at least happy to report that Overstock refunded my money within 24 hours after the item was shipped back to them.
